Does anyone know where I can get a good DVD burning software?
15.December, 2008
I want to make backups of my copy protected DVD's. Traditional software wont do that. I want a good burning software that will burn the entire thing, the cheaper the better. I don't plan on doing anything illegal, I just want backups…
Okay, I just realized that I already have DVD shrink on my computer. I'll give a best answer to anyone who can detail how to use it. Email me if you have already answered.
Here are the tools I use to copy DVDS for my own personal back ups. I know some folks do not trust some sites due to all the junk spyware out there and virus stuff. But look at my answer history, you will see that I can be trusted. D/load the free protection I recomend. I trust the programs I mention below and use them. I also believe in try before you buy.
http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html……… - DVD Shrink Freeware will copy most DVDs but there are some it will not copy.
http://www.slysoft.com/?aid=50549………. - AnyDVD and CloneDVD
These 2 programs are great, 21 day free trial, and I have them both. AnyDVD and CloneDVD they will take off encryption and protection.
Just bought An American Haunting and DVD Shrink would not copy it, but these 2 programs no problem. Have not had any movie yet they could not copy.

what would cause a burned data CD-R to work in some PCs but not others?
13.December, 2008
i work at a CD/DVD duplication company. recently i had a client who ordered 500 CD-rs with a bunch of PDFs on them. after running the job in my duplicator the client complained about 5 of the discs not working. we got them back and tested them in our computers and they worked fine in all but one. i called tech support on the duplicator today and was told by them that they think the duplicator is fine. what other possible issues could be causing this disc error on some machines but not all? i've had the same issue come up with DVD-R's as well, where a DVD job would play in the clients desktop PCs but not their Laptop PCs. i've questioned the media stock, the destination drives, all the obvious stuff. there's obviously something else i'm unaware of.
CD/DVD drives read media by shining a laser on the media and reading the reflections. Most consumer drives have lasers generated by LED's. Over time, LED's fade in brightness, and there can be some minor frequency shifting as well. Older drives will have a harder time reading any media.
Also, some media has a specific colour to help specific drives read the media better, at the expense of other drives. Some CR-R/RW media I've seen defects in had a blue or green cast. Silver or gold CD-R media tends to be more compatible, but that still depends on the drive being used.
Environmental conditions can also cause media to cause erratic reflections, such as higher than average heat which can flex the media, or media that is significantly colder and attracts condensation. And the plastic in the media may also haze for various reasons, particularly as the plastic gets older.
Reading such media depends on the signal strength of the reflections. If the drive gets a weak signal, it might retry a few times before giving up. Just because you have media that works in some drives doesn't mean it's okay; your drives might be retrying significantly but still managing to get a clean read, whereas other drives are not able to do so.
I'd suspect the media itself. As for why it's bad, you may not ever know unless you can review/compare different media thoroughly under a microscope.
DVD Burning: How can I fit a 4-hour show on a 2-hour DVD? Or, how can I record a show onto more than one DVD?
11.December, 2008
My laptop (HP DV2000) came with Windows DVD Maker and Roxio's MyDVD Basic V9 software. I record my favorite TV shows for later viewing and burning. Unfortunatley, both software programs showed that only two hours of video was going to fit on a standard DVD (4.7 GB).
Can some one please let me know what I need to do? I need to burn the shows but they are bigger than the DVD capacity. Is there a way to break the show onto more than one DVD? Do premium DVD burning software solve this problem automatically?
P.S. I only use blank DVD-R because they are the only ones that work with my regular DVD recorder.
Thanks…
You can try a program called "DVD Shrink". It's a very good freeware program. You can download the latest version here:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DVD-Shrink-Download-4128.html
It allows you to take a regular uncompressed DVD (around 8 GB) and compress it to allow backup to a 4.7GB DVD-R. You can manually control the compression rate, and even remove unwanted parts (movie trailers, special features etc) to maximize the main movie quality. I've found that even compressing by as much as 50% still yields a reasonable result, roughly comparable to a regular VHS image.

I would prefer something free (obviously). I get them on my pc in Video TS files. I downloaded a free trial of Nero 8 and it couldnt burn the DVD and deleted it now it wont let me re-download it. I also used Clone DVD which worked but it wouldn't copy anything but the movie. Any suggestions would help. Thanks
It's not free but I use 1CLICK DVD Copy - burns most DVDs without much problems. You will then need to download (free) a decrypter if you plan to copy protected DVDs , I use DVD43.
I am looking for a decent program that i can download that will allow me to burn a dvd with video from say, google video or youtube. Thank you in advance.
a good program to burn is Nero or DVDShrink but you need a seperate program to download the videos you've mentioned

What is the fastest DVD burning software?
01.December, 2008
I want to burn a video off my PC to a blank DVD disc. I tried Nero, but it is way too slow. It takes about 1:30 hours. I've got 1GB RAM on my PC, and I'm looking for the fastest DVD burner, with amazing quality and sound, and it has to be compatible with as many DVD players as possible.
Thanks for your time.
All software burns at the same speed, its the burner that you need to be asking about. You can get a 16x DVD burner for 15 $ at walmart.
