06.May, 2009
I have downloaded a few movies from the internet and have put them on dvd, however; the first dvd takes about 2-3 hours to complete!! If i burn multiple copies of the movie it only takes about 8 minutes. I bought a 22x dvd burner but its still slow for the first one. how do i speed up the initial dvd burning process?!?! please help
Here is a step by step guide to burn DVD from any video formats. It works well for me.

Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of the DVD creator give you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product:

I suggest you stick to lowest speed of burning. Burning in high speed has a higher chance of failure

Other than not doing anything on your computer (to slow down the process) there is really nothing you can do.
DVD's contain a lot of data and your system may be a little slow for the fast burner. You could try standard speed up techniques (e.g., defrag, etc.) but in the end the speed is all based on the IO speed of your system.

First time is slower because your DVD burning software is encoding the DVD to burn. (that is processor speed limited) The rest are quicker becuase the encoding is done and the burn is simply DVD burner speed limited.
Check what format you are downloading, and your dvd burning software - do you really need to encode? If you really need to encode probably you need a faster processor - more RAM or better video card might help. Different DVD burning software might help - probably it is faster processor.
good luck.
