I have tried burning dvds using both dvd-r and dvd+r but I can play them on my computer but not on my dvd player.

Cucusoft Video to DVD Creator is a good choice. It converts popular video formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, DV, VOB to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable or home DVD player. Any video to to VCD/DVD/SVCD is even faster than real-time.

You are proobably making DVD-ROMs with the video files. Yuo need a DVD-Video authoring software package.

    Nero and Roxio have them.

so what is wrong with your dvd player ?
you are not knowing what file format your dvd player supports, find out in the manual and burn the files on the same format
then only it will play your burnt dvds. Same burning program is good enough, you should covert the file to suitable format before burning thats all.

BTW which is your DVD Player's Make and model ? Always put up a full description of the hardware.

Computers can play all sorts of video files - most DVD players can play only 1 format. As classicsat said, you need an authoring program of some kind to create that.

DVD format is VOB, you have to convert your video to DVD compatible video at first, otherwise standard DVD player can not read and play it. If you don’t know how to do that, I’d recommend this all-in-one DVD Creator to you, I always use it to convert and burn movie to DVD to play on my home TV, it’s easy to use and works pretty well, if you are interested in it, here is a step by step guide about how to use it.
