i have downloaded movies from utorrent, but they dont play on media player, but they do work on VLC player. i dont know if i need a dvd converter. does anyone know? and if there is any free downloadable software for burning dvds?

try using burn4free. I have used it before, though I burn my movies as files not as movies.

Yes! I know the answer!
There is tons of free software on the web if you know where to look. First you must look at the type of media file you have downloaded, perhaps AVI? Then know what you need to convert it to. Then find the correct program to do the job.

You may try DVD Shrink, it's a nice free DVD burning softwre, just google search for it.
I'd prefer using Cucusoft DVD Burner Pro, it's not free, but it works really nice for me, here is a guide about it
