Friend records on Sony dcr-trv260 (D8) camera and transfers through FireWire to Samsung DVD-R120 DVD Player/Burner. Finalizes the disk (no embedded copy protection). Plays fine 99% of time on the Samsung and 60% of time on Panasonic DVD-RV32 player.

Duplicates with Aleratec CopyCruiserPro & blank Verbatim DVD-R 16X with CCP at slowest speed (1x). Most times it copies 1 hour of video in 5-8 mins & says it was successful. Copy plays fine 95+% of time on the Samsung but only 30% of time on the Panasonic.

He's using Verbatims over 1.5 yrs & until last month only had playability issues with 1% of the copies he sent out (out of 600+). Now almost every one has digital stuttering & playability problems. Most play fine on Samsung, but all give problems on Panasonic with customer complaints.

2 of the new masters from 2 days ago give BAD DISK ERRORS when used as master in the CCP & duplication process does not complete. That has NOT happened before & nothing in the process has changed.

Help??

Bad media or bad drive. In the future save some older media to confirm this. DVDs are created in batches and the whole batch may be affected. Search for some slower media at one of the smaller stores to get some older DVD media. If these burn fine then it's just a bad batch of DVDs you got. If they also turn out crappy then it may be time to replace the DVD burner. They do wear out eventually.
