Preparing Your Photographs For Mailing

The following guidelines help you prepare your photographs for mailing. It is important that you do not deviate from the sizing requirements so that your DVD can be created without errors and delays. These instructions will be included in each DVD Kit.

Step 1 - Select Your Photos

Select your photosPrep photos with Post-It notes

  • Select the photos to be included on the DVD.
  • Group photos into groups, or chapters (such as Ceremony, Reception, Party, Outdoors, Studio shots, etc.) and within each chapter, into the sequence you want played on the DVD.
  • Rename the photos in this sequence as appropriate.
  • If you are sending in your photographs to be scanned, you can label each photo with a Post-It note.
  • An example might be: img101.jpg, img102.jpg for JPEG files, etc.

Step 2 - Either Print or JPEG Photos or 35 MM slide

Select Your Photos

  • Print Photographs for scanning, no larger than 8x10 prints.
  • .JPEG or .JPG files, a minimum 72 dpi with a width of 720 pixels by height of 540 pixels with low compression.
  • 35 MM slides for scanning, mounted only.
  • Digital JPEG files should be sent on CD-ROM, CD-RW, or CD-R and please no floppy disks.

Step 3 - Select Your Music

Although not required, having audios, or background music, in your menu and chapters adds both dimension and depth to your DVD. You can select your favorite songs to be playing while the photos are displayed on the screen. Just create an audio CD with your songs or drop a .MP3 file in the chapters you want to have the music played for.

Select Your Photos

  • We found music with no lyrics to work best for the DVD's purpose.
  • Estimate the amount of music (number of songs) by multiplying the total photos you have by 7 seconds, which is the average duration to display each photo in a chapter.
  • A word about copyrights: an audio piece is never used in its entirety at any one time. They are used in a "montage" fashion, creating a unique piece of audio. Although you are still responsible for all audios sent to us, we recommend "older" audios such as most popular classical or older music pieces.

Step 4 - Send in your Source Materials
